The four repeating actions
- Divide the current number by the divisor.
- Multiply the quotient digit by the divisor.
- Subtract the product.
- Bring down the next digit and repeat.
Divide whole numbers and follow every divide, multiply, subtract, and bring-down step through the remainder.
Multiply the divisor by the whole-number quotient, then add the remainder. The result should equal the original dividend.
Write a zero in the quotient when the divisor does not fit into the current place. Skipping that zero changes the place value of every digit that follows.
